The forecast for the day was heavy rain, and moderate winds. This was correct on the day, although the rain could best be described as torrential. Spurdogs were to be the main target of the day, with some good catches having been caught in recent days.
Mackerel were plentiful thankfully, and after filling the bait box, Sean headed to a mark near Bull Point, where he anchored up, and the lads sent down their rigs to the bottom. Action was instant and furious, as a succession of good Spurdogs were taken. Biggest fish on this ground was a spur of 13lb 11oz by guest angler Steven McCrindle, whose fish was just one ounce bigger than Glen Murphy’s 13lb 10oz fish, just beating him for the big fish pool on the day. Everyone on board took Spurdogs, with many fish being in double figures.
A short move late on in the day produced some different species, with a decent Pollock of around 5lb for Steven Montgomery, followed by some ling to 6lb, and the inevitable hoards of dogfish.
Overall then a pretty good days fishing, spoiled only by the torrential rain, which prevented anyone taking photographs for fear of ruining their phones and cameras.
