The weather was as good as we could have got for this trip with sunshine and little wind all day. After a chat with the skipper we decided to head for the wreck instead of the initial plan of fishing the limeburner mark. A boat fished the wreck the day before with some nice ling and pollock caught.
We tried briefly for some mackerel for bait but we had a good selection of bait with us so decided to steam out to the wreck and make the most of it.
On reaching our mark, we were straight into fish, Alan Buchanan with the 1st few ling and a double hook up with ling and pollock. Within the next 30 mins most of the boat were into a ling ranging from 3-7lb. John McCourt then landed a nice 4lb Cod which was good to see.
As the day went on the ling kept coming thick and fast with some better fish landed. Mark McCreedy with a nice 8lb and 9lb fish and new member Armand Tollas with a fish just over 10lb which would win him the pool in the end. Gerard Girvan landed a fish of 9.5lb and Bill Bannon with a 8.5lb fish.
A few decent pollock landed in between of 6lb for Stephen Montgomery, Gerard Girvan and Marty Buchanan along with a few 7lb+ ling and the odd pouting and coalie.
All in all a great day with an estimated 35-40 ling caught. Not bad for 1st trip of the season.
