Mullaghmore 15th May 2016

First club trip of the year to Mullaghmore. Our Skipper for the day was Declan Kilgannon, on board Tor Mor, as his usual boat Kiwi Girl was out of action. Targets for the day would mainly be Pollock and hopefully some cod and other species.

The 7 of us drew lots for boat positions and we set off. The weather was as good as we could have hoped for with sunshine and flat calm seas.

After a few short stops for Mackerel we headed to the first mark. Straight from the off we started to hit fish all over the boat. Alan Buchanan took a nice pollock around 4lb with his first cast of the spinning rod, closely followed by a few Pouting around the 1.5lb mark for Frankie Montgomery and a 3lb Ballan Wrasse for Alan Campbell.

Bill Bannon then landed a 7lb 5oz Pollock while Martin Buchanan took a nice 5lb Cod on the spinning gear. The fish kept coming for around an hour or so. Alan Buchanan taking another Pollock of 6lb 8oz and Martin with another of 5lb 11oz along with Gerard Girvan and Glenn Murphy picking up some more Pollock and Pouting.

As fast as it had started it came to a halt and we moved on to another few marks around the islands. Fishing was patchy for the rest of the day with a few coalies, smaller pollock and a decent 3lb 10oz Ling for Frankie before Glenn landed a nice 4lb a pollock near the end of the day

All in all it was a great days fishing and a great day out. It was our first of two trips this year with Declan and if this standard was anything to go by there may be a few more trips added on next year.
